TV

I watched the TV show Gossip Girl. My reaction to this showing is that our life is connecting to this show. When I am unhappy or angry somebody, I will talk about the private details of that people’s lives. For example, the guy I like is liked by someone else, of course I was angry. I was unable to control my jealousy. I think in the daily life, it is hard to dealing with friends, family, and jealousy.

Glog

As you can see in the picture is the examples of pop culture in the Chicago downtown. On the right top of the picture is Millian Park. It is one of the places in downtown. On the lower right corner of the picture are the events in the culture center. On the center of the picture are the members of our group. The pop cultures are everywhere.

Technology

I use technology a lot in my daily life such as the iPod, cell phone, and the internet. I think cell phone and the internet are absolutely necessary in my daily life. For example, when I needed information from a store or a business, I use cell phone to make a phone call or search in the internet. If these technological devices removed from my daily life, I think I cannot get information quickly. Without these technological devices, I cannot imagine that how much time it takes me to get these things done in my daily life.

Movies

Frozen River was written and directed by Courtney Hunt. It just comes out in 2008 American drama film. The rating of this film is really good. The main actors are Melissa Leo and Misty Upham. The supporting actors are Charlie McDermott and Michael O’Keefe. The screenplay focuses on two single mothers who are forced to transport illegal immigrants in the trunk of the car from Canada to the United States in order to make more money. I like it because the movie details are rich and the dialogue is specific. It educates us on the relationship between the Native Americans and Whites, and tells us about the financial hardship. I think Frozen River is extremely satisfying film to watch.
I Love You, Man it’s not boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girl back, it’s more like guy meets guy, guy drink beer and make jokes, guy argues and guy makes up. This comedy should be very popular on a date. The excellent acting combined with a sweet and quickly told story and very good writing makes me to like the comedy I Love You, Man. I think it is a good romantic comedy to watch.

Music

Music plays an important role in my life. Listening music make me relaxing, controlling, and improving my mood. When I have free time, I like to listen to the music. My favorite song is NuanNuan. Liang Jing Ru has become my favorite singer. Mostly, I like the Mandarin popular music. I am influenced by music I listen to, mostly because I want to copy my favorite artist and feel that’s a way to expressing me and fitting in with the people that are into the same music.

Reading

The reading “They’ve Got to be Carefully Taught” by Susan Brady Konig made me think about the Cultural identity. Although many Americans, for example, identify with their Chinese, Irish, West African, or Mexican, they may still know themselves to be American. As I started looking at cultural identity in my own life, once I have moved away from the place of my original culture and begun the process of adapting to another culture, I notice that it is increase the range of my knowledge, understanding, and experience. I noticed things that are done differently or similarly between the two cultures.

 Pop Culture

Every day I Using media such as movies, music, television, video games, internet, and magazines, I have been influenced by popular culture. No matter where I go, I surrounded by pop culture. When I reading a magazine, watching television or a movie, and listening to the radio in my car, I exposed some form of pop culture on my daily life. Pop culture is almost impossible not be influenced by it.
I am influenced by the American pop culture. I think maybe I am impacted and changed by the places I live and I easily influenced by the American popular culture. Since I moved to United States, I have some general change. For example, the way I behaving, the way I appear, the place like Woodsfield mall influenced I like to shop, and the Thanksgiving dinner, I am influenced by the celebration of eating turkey and so on.
